For employers, owners and directors
Setting up a Cycle to Work scheme costs you nothing
Any employer with PAYE staff can offer it, including a one-person limited company paying its director a salary. The provider does the paperwork, you approve applications and run the salary sacrifice through payroll, and you save employer National Insurance on every bike.
What it costs and saves
The employer pays the provider for the bike up front and recovers it from the employee's gross salary over the hire period. Because that salary isn't paid, you don't pay employer National Insurance on it, currently 15% above the threshold, so a £3,000 bike saves the business around £450. Some providers charge the employer a platform fee; most charge nothing.
The rules in one paragraph
The scheme must be open to all employees, the employee must mainly use the bike for commuting (nobody checks), the salary sacrifice can't take anyone below the National Minimum Wage, and the employer owns the bike during the hire. A provider that is FCA-authorised has no spending cap; an employer running its own scheme without authorisation is capped at £1,000 per agreement, which is why almost everyone uses a provider.
Three providers that are free to join
We accept all three, and every other scheme. Pick one, give your staff the code, and send them to us.
Gogeta
Charges the shop nothing and funds itself with a 6% platform fee. Default limit £5,000, £1 ownership transfer at the end.
Green Commute Initiative
A not-for-profit. No limit, no employer fee, £1 transfer at the end.
Cyclescheme
The biggest. Employer sign-up takes about five minutes.
For a club, a team or an office
If several of your staff ride, tell us before they apply. We'll run the Pre-Purchase Fits back to back, write each quote in the format your provider needs, and make sure every bike is built and fitted on collection.
