Edinburgh Bike Fitting Cycle to Work

Edinburgh · every UK scheme accepted · Colnago, Ridley, Moda and most brands to order

Your employer's Cycle to Work scheme works here

Nothing to pay up front, no credit check, and the cost comes off your salary before tax. We size you first so the bike you get on the scheme is the right one, then we build it and fit you on it.

Roughly 27 to 50% off the cost over the hire, depending on your Scottish tax band and your scheme's end-of-hire terms.

How it works, start to finish

  1. Your employer joins a scheme

Free for them, takes minutes. Most big Edinburgh employers already have one. Ask HR which.

  2. You pick the bike with us

Frame Finder first so the size is right. We write one exact quote for bike and kit. It can't be topped up later.

  3. You apply, your employer approves

On their benefits portal, with our quote. Your employer pays the provider in full.

  4. Certificate lands, you collect

It comes by email. Send it to us, we redeem it, build the bike, fit you on it and hand it over.

  5. 12 months off your gross pay

Taken before tax and NI, so each payslip is lower than the bike's price. That's the saving.

  6. Then it's yours

One small separate step at the end of the hire. £0 to £1 on most schemes; Cyclescheme takes a 3% or 7% deposit.

The one-line version: Your employer buys the bike, you pay it back over a year before tax, and you keep it at the end for next to nothing.

The money on a £3,000 bike

Scottish taxpayer, 2026/27 rates, 12-month hire. The gross deduction is £250 a month on every band. The net cost is what you actually feel.

Rough figures from published income tax and National Insurance rates, before any end-of-hire step. Cyclescheme's "Own it later" deposit (7% on packages over £500) reduces the saving; most other schemes charge £0 to £1 at the end. No VAT saving since 2012. Not a quote.

Why do the Frame Finder first

A certificate is for one exact amount and can't be topped up later. So the spec has to be right before you apply.

The Frame Finder is a £350 session where we measure you properly and work out which frame, size and setup suits you. You leave with a shortlist and an exact quote for the scheme. It includes the fit on your new bike once it's built.

What you can get here

The bike

Colnago, Ridley and Moda in the studio, most other brands to order. Road, gravel, e-bike, mountain and cargo. If it's a bicycle, it qualifies.

Built to your numbers

Saddle, stem, bars and pedals specified from the Frame Finder go on the same quote, so the bike arrives set up for you, not for the average rider.

Kit on the same certificate

Helmet, lights, lock, mudguards, pedals, cycling clothing and shoes can go on most schemes. We'll tell you what yours allows.

Three things people get wrong

  • It isn't finance from the shop. It's a hire from your employer. We never see your pay and we don't run credit checks.
  • You can't add your own money to a certificate. Get the quote right first.
  • Self-employed? It doesn't apply to sole traders. Directors paid through PAYE can join, and your own company can set a scheme up for free.

Questions people ask

What is the Cycle to Work scheme?

A government-backed salary sacrifice benefit. Your employer hires you a bike and kit, and the cost comes off your gross pay over the hire period, usually 12 months, so you don't pay income tax or National Insurance on that slice of salary. It has run since 1999 and the rules have not changed since 2019.

How much do I save?

It depends on your tax band and your scheme's end-of-hire terms. On 2026/27 Scottish rates the saving during the hire is roughly 27 to 29% if you earn under about £43,600, and 44 to 50% above that. A £3,000 bike works out at about £177 a month for an intermediate-rate taxpayer and £125 to £140 for a higher-rate one. These are rough figures, not a quote.

Is it a loan? Is there a credit check?

No. It's a hire agreement between you and your employer, not finance from us. There's no interest and no credit check. Your employer pays the provider, and the payments come off your salary.

Which schemes does Edinburgh Bike Fitting accept?

All of them. Cyclescheme, Halfords Cycle2Work, Green Commute Initiative, Gogeta, Vivup, Cycle Solutions, Bike2Work, Enjoy Benefits, Caboodle, and the benefits platforms built on them such as Pluxee, Reward Gateway, Perkbox and BHN Extras. If yours isn't listed, ask us.

How do I find out which scheme my employer uses?

Look on your HR or benefits portal under Cycle to Work or salary sacrifice. It will name the provider and give you an employer code. If you can't find it, email us with your employer's name and we'll point you in the right direction.

Is there a limit on how much I can spend?

The old £1,000 cap was removed in 2019 for FCA-authorised providers. Your employer sets its own limit, so check yours. The University of Edinburgh and NHS Fife, for example, allow £5,000; some employers still cap at £1,000.

Can I use it on any bike you sell?

Yes. Colnago, Ridley and Moda in the studio, most other brands to order, plus e-bikes, gravel, mountain and cargo bikes. If it's a bicycle, it qualifies.

Can I add my own money to the certificate?

No, on every scheme. The certificate must be for one exact amount and used in one transaction, so we agree the full spec and price before you apply. That's what the Frame Finder session is for.

What is Frame Finder and why do it first?

A £350 session where we measure you properly and work out which frame, size and setup actually suits you, before you spend the money. It includes the fit on your new bike once it's built. Because a certificate can't be changed afterwards, getting the spec right first matters more on Cycle to Work than on any other purchase.

Can I put a bike fit or shoes on my certificate?

Components fitted to the bike (saddle, stem, bars, pedals) are part of the bike and go on the quote. Clothing and safety kit are allowed on most schemes. A stand-alone fitting service is not clearly covered by any provider, so we don't put it on a certificate; the Frame Finder is paid separately and includes the fit on the bike.

Who owns the bike?

Your employer, during the hire. At the end there is a small, separate step to take ownership. On most schemes that costs £0 to £1. Cyclescheme takes a refundable deposit of 3% or 7% and extends the hire for three more years before ownership passes.

What if I leave my job?

The remaining balance is usually taken from your final net pay, so you lose the tax saving on that part but keep the bike arrangement. Check your scheme's terms.

I'm self-employed. Can I use it?

Not as a sole trader. You need to be paid through PAYE. Directors of their own limited company who take a PAYE salary can join, and setting a scheme up for your own company is free and takes minutes with Gogeta, GCI or Cyclescheme.

Does it work if I don't live in Edinburgh?

Yes. The scheme is run by your employer, not by where you buy. We fit people from Aberdeen, the Highlands and England, and we also fit in London at a partner studio in Farringdon.

How long does the whole thing take?

Frame Finder, then a quote the same day. Your employer approval depends on them; most are a few days to two weeks. The certificate arrives by email, you send it to us, and we build and fit the bike. A Halfords Letter of Collection is valid for four months, a Gogeta voucher for twelve, so there's time for a bike to be ordered in.

Start with the sizing, not the bike

Book a Frame Finder, bring your current bike if you have one, and tell us who you work for. We'll do the rest.
